Waves Claim First Win of The Season!
NORTH ADAMS, MA - The Ocean State Waves headed to Joe Wolfe Field on Friday night looking to enter the win column for the first time in their young season.
Starting pitcher Corey Kling (South Florida) got the Waves off to a strong start, delivering 4.0 IP, 0 hits, 6 strikeouts. Catcher Brandyn Durand (Bryant) opened the scoring for the Waves in the 2nd inning with a 422 ft blast to center field. This 2-run homer was Durand and the Waves first of the season.
Second baseman Sam Seidel (Bowling Green) built on this momentum with a bases-loaded double in the 4th inning, scoring 3 runs and putting the Waves in front 5-0. Designated hitter Connor Grotyohann (Rutgers) added a 2 RBI single before a rain delay halted action in the 5th with the Waves leading 7-0.
Coming out of the delay, North Adams was able to get their first baserunner of the night and start their comeback effort, tallying 1 run each of the next 4 innings, cutting the Waves’ lead to 8-4 entering the 9th inning. An RBI double from pinch-hitter Kolton Reynolds (Tennessee-Wesleyan) scored Justin Hackett (Bryant) and extended the Waves lead to 9-4. Nolan Peel (Rutgers) retired the batters in order, 1-2-3, in his second inning of relief to seal the win for Ocean State.
The Waves, now 1-1 on the season, will travel to Lynn, Massachusetts tomorrow to face the North Shore Navigators. First pitch: 6:05 PM.
