Mulhern Scores Twice as Rams Open Season with Win at TCNJ

The University of Rhode Island Rams launched their 2025–26 season with a convincing 4–1 victory over The College of New Jersey on Friday night at Tsai Ice Rink. Senior forward Shane Mulhern led the way with two goals and an assist, while goaltender Nick Maringola turned aside 24 shots to secure the season’s first win.

The Rams wasted no time setting the tone. Senior Max Lockwood struck just 3:48 into the game, with assists from Corey Szabo and Shane Mulhern, to record URI’s first goal of the year. Later in the period, senior Zach Gold doubled the lead on a setup from Mulhern and Szabo, sending Rhode Island into the break up 2–0.

TCNJ cut the deficit in half midway through the second, but URI’s pressure never relented, piling up 20 shots in the frame. In the third period, Mulhern restored control for the Rams, burying his second of the night off a feed from Lockwood to put the game out of reach and seal Rhode Island’s first victory of the season.
