MABF was founded in 1978 as an option for players who were a cut above the local house leagues. MABF is an association or ferderation of about 200 elite amateur baseball teams competing in 10 single-age divisions from age 8 through 18 and divided into over 20 leagues, with most players coming from Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and St. Clair counties and from several nearby Ontario communities.
The season extends from April through late July for player age 8 through 13 with up to 30 league games, the schedule is reduced considerably for age groups 14 through 18 to a schedule that will generly be between 12 and 18 games because of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Rules of not allowing players to compete in like programs that run adjacent to their athletic seasons. This schedule can be supplemented with an additional 25 to 50 games in optional outside tournaments, which may include the post season World Series tournaments of the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC), as well as the the National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) .
Teams organized by responsible adults are admitted by application and payment of entry fees before a date in mid-January as approved by the MABF Board of Directors. The number of MABF teams is not limited. Total team expenses for a season may range from $4,000 on up and must be met solely by team organizers.
Completion of our league schedules is a MUST and has been the binding tie that has solidified our premier federation for over 35 years.
