PITCHER OF THE WEEK ending August 3rd

With the Blue Sox playoff hopes on the line, the 6’7” righty delivered. He pitched a nine inning complete game shutout at North Adams on July 31st, giving Holyoke a critically needed 2-0 win. Kutzer fanned three and allowed just five baserunners in going the distance.

Hometown: Bethpage, NY
In five games, Cafiero hit .556 (10-for-18) with a double, a triple, two homers and five RBI. Cafiero had a hit in all five Swamp Bat games, collecting eight between July 27th and 30th against Danbury, Vermont and North Adams. He homered against Vermont, and three days later against Laconia. Both games were Keene wins.

Brock hit .565 (13-for-23) with nine runs, two doubles, three RBI and four steals. He also walked four times. Brock had a base hit in all six games in which he got an at-bat. He strung together three consecutive three-hit games July 29th, 30th and 31st against Danbury, Mystic and Newport. He homered against Danbury and scored two runs in Vermont’s July 27th win over Ocean State

Hometown: Hershey, PA
Tezak appeared in two games this week, earning the win on July 27th against Newport and the save on July 25th against Ocean State. In 6.1 innings, Tezak struck out 10, yielded just one hit and walked two while not allowing a run

In four games Tam Sing, a 22nd round pick of the Boston Red Sox out of high school, hit .500 (9-for-18), with five doubles, scored six runs and stole five bases. He stole two bases and scored two runs in a 7/22 win over Keene, and then smacked five doubles over two games against Sanford and Laconia

In seven games this week, each one of them a Keene win, Lukach hit .520 (13-for-25) with three homers, six RBI, two doubles and two steals. He had consecutive three hit games on July 15th and 16th against Saratoga and Danbury, and followed it up by missing hitting for the cycle by a triple against Danbury on the 19th.

In 9.1 innings this week, Hunter allowed just four hits, no earned runs and fanned 13. He threw 2.1 scoreless innings in Keene’s 7/15 win over Saratoga and then earned his stripes two days later, beating Plymouth 1-0 with a 10 strikeout, three hit shutout performance. Hunter walked just two on the week.

Burke, who ranks in the top three in both strikeouts and ERA, threw two outstanding games this week. He struck out eight and allowed one run in seven walk-free innings to beat New Bedford on 7/7. Six days later, Burke threw a complete game, nine inning shutout, striking out 11, against Sanford.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK ending July 6th

Sowa made two starts, striking out 13 and allowing just one earned run in 12 innings of work. He faced one batter over the minimum in a five shutout inning start and win over New Bedford on June 30th. He followed that with a seven innings of walk-free, one earned run baseball in beating Newport on July 6th. Sowa did not walk a batter in either start.

Sportman hit .474 (9-for19) with two doubles, a homer and seven RBI. He also stole three bases and helped a resurgent Swamp Bats team go 4-1 this week. Sportman scored or drove in a run in 4 of those 5 games, and had two hits in the game in which he did not. He was a 2012 NECBL All-Star

Kirby appeared in two games this week, posting a 0.00 ERA and striking out 12 in eight innings. He got the win on June 24th at Sanford with six shutout innings where he fanned 10 and allowed six base runners. He retired all but one batter in a shutout, two inning relief stint at Vermont on June 29th.

He had consecutive multi-hit games with an RBI and a steal in a June 23rd loss to North Adams and a June 25th loss to Ocean State

Tyler hit .429 this week with three doubles, two home runs and two walks as the Schooners went 4-1. He struck out just twice in five games. Tyler’s OPS of 1.335 and .857 slugging percentage led the NECBL
