Swamp Bats pick up first win of 2010 season, Onorati paces offense

Keene, NH – Center fielder Mark Onorati (Williston Park, NY/Manhatten)
went 3-for-4 with one RBI, three runs scored, one walk and two stolen
bases to pace the Keene Swamp Bats past Bristol Collegiate, 10-2, in New
England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) action on Tuesday night at
Alumni Field.

Keene improves to 1-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Western
Division. Bristol falls to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the West.

TJ Ferguson (Westmoreland, NH/Franklin Pierce) earned the win in relief
pitching three-and-two-thirds innings, giving up no runs, no hits, four
walks and two strikeouts. Alex Smith (Manchester, CT/New Haven) suffered
the loss recording no outs, yielding three hits, three runs (all earned)
and two walks.

Swamp Bats starting pitcher AJ Bazdanes (Nashua, NH/Maine) was dealt the
no-decision on four-and-one-thirds innings pitched, two runs (both
earned), four hits, five walks and seven punchouts.

In the bottom of the first, shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, MA/Franklin
Pierce), Onorati and catcher Tom Conley (Quincy, MA/UMass Amherst)
connected on three-consecutive singles with Onorati and Conley picking
up RBI’s to take a 3-0 lead.

Shortstop Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, NH/Maine-Orono) cut into the
lead in the top of the second driving home Dave Soltis (Plainville,
CT/Bryant) for a 3-1 deficit.

Keene answered with a four-run third inning to put the game away.

Designated hitter Tim Fontaine (Worcester, MA/UMass Boston) highlighted
the frame with an RBI single plating right fielder Kevin Ruiz
(Alpharetta, GA/Georgia) from third base.

Conley finished the night going 3-for-5 with one run scored, Ruiz went
2-for-5 with a run and Kemp had a 2-for-5 showing with two RBI.

The Swamp Bats host the Vermont Mountaineers tomorrow, at home, with
first pitch at 7:00 p.m.
