Danbury pounds out 18 hits to defeat Swamp Bats

Keene, NH – The Danbury Westerners scored 14 runs on 18 hits to beat the

Keene Swamp Bats, 14-4, at Rogers Park in New England Collegiate

Baseball League (NECBL) action on Thursday night.

 

Danbury improves to 5-3 on the season. Keene falls to 3-6 overall and

3-5 in the Western Division.

 

Sean Hagan (Larchmont, NY/St. John’s) earned the win throwing seven

innings, seven hits, four runs (all earned), no walks and six

strikeouts. Alex Wood (Charlotte, NC/Georgia) suffered the loss on

one-and-one-thirds innings pitched, nine hits, seven runs (all earned),

two walks and one strikeout.

 

Second baseman Tucker Nathans (Warwick, NY/Fairfield) helped pace the

Westerners offense with four runs batted in going 2-for-6 at the plate.

Derek Ingui (Sterling, MA/Franklin Pierce) knocked home three runs on a

pair of doubles to finish the night with a 4-for-5 performance including

two runs scored.

 

The Westerners broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning

and never looked back with a six-run frame highlighted by a two-run

double off the bat of Nathans and a two-run single by right fielder

Brandon Boudreaux (Mandeville, LA/Tulane) to center field.

 

Jeremy Baltz (Vestal, NY/St. John’s) gave Keene an early 2-0 lead in the

top of the first with a two-run home run, his first of the season, to

right field plating teammate Tyler Bernard (Valley Center, CA/Arizona

St.).

 

Catcher Tom Conley (Quincy, MA/UMass Amherst) knocked in the Swamp Bats’

only other runs with a two-run double down the left field line in the

fourth inning. Conley finished 2-for-4 on the night with the only

multi-hit game for the visitors.

 

In relief for Keene, Tyler Toyfair (Agawam, MA/UMass Lowell) was a

bright spot tossing two-and-one-thirds innings of scoreless pitching,

allowing three hits, one walk and four punchouts. Buddy Lamothe

(Lyndonville, VT/Franklin Pierce) was also solid out of the pen on

one-and-two-thirds innings, no hits, no runs, two walks and four

punchouts.

 

The Swamp Bats return to action on Saturday, June 19 versus the Laconia

Muskrats at Alumni Field at 7:00 p.m.
