SteepleCats pound out 16 hits in victory

Keene, NH – North Adams scored 11 runs on 16 hits to defeat the Keene

Swamp Bats, 11-2, in New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)

action on Monday night at Joe Wolfe Field.

 

The SteepleCats improve to 16-7 overall on the season. The Swamp Bats

fall to 10-13 overall.

 

Ryland Parker (Splendora, TX/Louisiana Lafayette) earned the win (2-0)

tossing seven innings giving up two runs (all earned), one walk and five

strikeouts. Kevin Scanlan (Sudbury, MA/Maine) suffered the loss over

four innings, yielding eight hits, three runs (all earned), no walks and

two strikeouts.

 

Center fielder Devin Shines (Austin, TX/Oklahoma St.) knocked in the

eventual game-winning run with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth

inning that gave North Adams a 3-2 advantage.

 

The SteepleCats busted the game open in the seventh with a seven-run

frame and never looked back.

 

Shines finished the contest going 2-for-4 with one run scored and two

runs batted in. Designated hitter Matt Petty (St. Petersburg, FL/Barry)

went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Catcher Garrett Gray

(Lewisburg, OH/Wright St.) finished with a 2-for-5 performance scoring

once and knocking in two runs.

 

Keene took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Mark

Onorati (Williston Park, NY/Manhattan) was hit-by-a-pitch to leadoff the

frame. Ben Klafczynski (Medina, OH/Kent St.) drove him home with an RBI

double to left center to take a 1-0 advantage. Paul Karmas (Douglaston,

NY/St. John’s) followed with a single to left center to make it 2-0.

 

In the fourth inning, Tom Coulombe (Lincoln, RI/Rhode Island) and Gray

picked up RBI singles and Shines capped the scoring with his RBI double

and North Adams never gave up the lead.

 

The Swamp Bats return to action tomorrow at home against the Danbury

Westerners with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
