KEENE, NH – Left fielder Kevin Brown (Northborough, MA/Bryant Univ.)
finished a double shy of the cycle going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a
solo home run, a two-run triple and four runs batted in to lead the
Keene Swamp Bats over the Danbury Westerners, 7-4, in New England
Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) action on Thursday night at Alumni
Field in front of 1,391 fans.

Keene improves to 13-7 overall on the season. Danbury falls to 11-7.

In his first start this summer, Swamp Bats pitcher Taylor Williams
(Camas, WA/Washington St.) earned the win going six innings, yielding
one run (earned) on four hits, no walks and three strikeouts. Westerners’
starter Erik Luksis (Wappinger Falls, NY/Manhattan) suffered the loss on
four innings of work, four runs (three earned), three hits, two walks
and three strikeouts.

Brown gave Keene an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning
crushing a solo shot to right field tying him for the team-lead in
homers with four.

In the fifth, Brown extended the Swamp Bats lead roping a triple down
the right field line plating Curt Powell (Knoxville, TN/Georgia) and
Alex Chittenden (Indianapolis, IN/Louisville) for a 3-0 advantage. After
Brett DeLoach (Blackshear, GA/Georgia) flew out to right field, third
baseman Colby May (Guyton, GA/Georgia) lined a single to left field
scoring Brown for a 4-0 gap and his 12th RBI of the season.

Danbury second baseman Dillon Everett (Scottsdale, AZ/Missouri) cut into
the deficit with a solo home run to centerfield in the sixth inning, his
first of the season, to make it 4-1.

The Swamp Bats added two more runs in the sixth highlighted by
Chittenden and Brown who both notched RBI singles to push the score to
6-1.

Brett Barrett (Keene, NH/Southern Maine) made it 7-1 in the bottom of
the seventh lining a single through the right side plating May from
third base for his fourth RBI of the season.

In the eighth inning, pinch hitter Kyle Richardson (Rome, NY/St. John’s)
lifted a two-run homer to left field scoring Alex Ramsay (Millersville,
MD/Maryland) who singled earlier in the inning for a 7-3 deficit.

Danbury threatened in the ninth inning as Andrew Garner (Lake Jackson,
TX/Tulane) led off the frame with a solo blast to right field – his
third of the season – off of Keene reliever TJ Ferguson (Westmoreland,
NH/Franklin Pierce) pushing the score to 7-4. After Ferguson induced a
double play ball and gave up a hit to Mike Ford (Belle Mead,
NJ/Princeton), Swamp Bats reliever Eddie Medina (Staten Island, NY/St.
John’s) was summoned out of the bullpen and earned his first save of the
season on one pitch.

Barrett picked up Keene’s only other multi-hit performance on the night
besides Brown going 2-for-4 with one run batted in.

Keene returns to action tomorrow at home against the Mystic Schooners at
6:30 pm.
