NECBL Unveils 2014 All-Star Game Broadcast Team
Vermont’s Joe Hutter, Mystic’s Alex Teixeira chosen to broadcast Sunday’s All-Star Game!
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – After a vote by their fellow broadcasting peers and representative of each team’s front office, Vermont’s Joe Hutter and Mystic’s Alex Teixeira have been selected as the 2014 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game play-by-play duo, as announced by the league Monday.
The honors are the first for either broadcaster, who will take their talents to MacKenzie Stadium this Sunday and team up to call all of the afternoon and evening’s festivities, including the Home Run Derby, all skills competitions and, of course, the main event of the All-Star Game itself.
“I would like to personally thank Joe and Alex on being selected to broadcast Sunday’s All-Star Game,” Commissioner Sean McGrath noted. “It is a testament to their preparation and professionalism in how they approach their work that they were selected by their peers to represent their divisions Sunday. We are indeed fortunate to have them and their voices representing the NECBL throughout the summer, especially at our showcase event.”
Teamline will once again offer free broadcast coverage of Sunday’s action on the NECBL Broadcast Network. Video and audio presentations will be available online and on mobile devices.
Meet The 2014 All-Star Game Broadcast Team
Joseph Hutter (Vermont)
Hutter is back behind the microphone for his second season with the Mountaineers after debuting in the league last summer.
A 2013 magna cum laude graduate from Hofstra with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in speech communication, Hutter was honored with the Senior of the Year Award for excellence in the journalism program. He is currently earning his Master's degree while working as a graduate assistant Sports Information Director at Manhattan College in New York City. In this position, he is the media contact for six of the Jaspers' Division-I sports teams.
His experience includes two years working in the sports department of 88.7 FM WRHU, Hofstra's radio station. He served as locker room reporter for the New York Islanders as part of the school's coverage of the team. He also provided in-depth game analysis as a studio panelist/broadcaster, covering a variety of Hofstra sports as well as Long Island Ducks (independent league baseball) games.
Alex Teixeira (Mystic)
Teixeira has returned home this summer as a Mystic native who graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a B.A. in Journalism/Mass Communication in May of 2013). He is no stranger to the press box at Fitch High School, where he graduated from in 2009.
Making his selection even more impressive is the fact that his gig with Mystic represents his first true job in broadcasting. Prior to this summer, he had called basketball games for Fitch High School’s television station, as well as baseball and basketball games for SBU's nationally recognized student radio and television stations.
Teixeira is hoping to parlay his All-Star Game opportunity into a networking experience to springboard him to further opportunities; he aspires is to find a job within a collegiate athletics department by this time next year to help pay for his graduate school expenses while continuing to build toward his long-term career goal is of becoming a college professor.
