NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Danbury outfielder and first baseman Cameron Masterman (Louisville) and Martha’s Vineyard southpaw Noah Johnson (Virginia Tech) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s (NECBL) Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the third week of the 2021 season.

Masterman put together a fine outing while splitting time in the outfield and at first base for the Westerners, who moved to an even 6-6 on the season after the season’s third week. The rising senior at Louisville finished with eight hits in 18 at-bats on the week (.444) while pacing the league with 13 RBIs and three homers. Masterman added two doubles, drew four walks, stole two bases and scored three runs himself while posting a 1.601 OPS.

Through 11 games, Masterman is batting an impressive .343 with the Westerners while his 13 RBIs are one off the league lead. He has scored six runs in total, and all of his 13 RBIs and three home runs came last week alone. The Kentucky native boasts a season-long OPS of 1.146 and he is slugging .657 with a .489 on-base percentage. This past spring for Louisville, Masterman bat .240 with 30 hits in 46 games (39 starts) while scoring 22 runs, driving in 21 more and smashing six home runs.

Johnson came out of the bullpen for his second appearance of the summer and was even better the next time around. In an 8-3 win over Danbury on June 15, the Virginia Tech southpaw was utterly dominant, striking out a league-high 12 batters in only four innings of work. He fanned 12 of the 15 batters he faced and worked around just two walks and a hit yielded to preserve the Sharks’ lead and earn the win in relief.

Johnson’s K/9 ratio, for the week, was a staggering 27.00; after two appearances, the rising junior has tossed seven scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts to only four walks and five hits allowed. He has posted a miniscule 0.71 WHIP thus far and opponents are hitting a measly 0.45 against him.
