Steeplecats Tab Ryan Abel to Lead 2023 Season
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Ryan Abel, a Pittsfield native, will lead the North Adams Steeplecats as the field manager for the 2023 season.
He returns to the Berkshires following recent experience playing and coaching at the collegiate level.
Abel, a graduate of Taconic High School, helped lead the Taconic baseball program to the school’s first Division I State Championship. Abel played summer ball for AP Academy, under current Boston Red Sox Hitting Coach Peter Fatse.
Following a playing career at Stonehill, Abel spent three seasons as the Director of Baseball Operations for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He helped the team advance to two consecutive playoff finals, with the Whitecaps winning the CCBL Championship in 2021. Working primarily with hitters, his responsibilities also included pre-game operations, individual player workouts, and advanced scouting reports.
Abel currently serves as an Assistant Coach and Director of Baseball Operations at Division I Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
“We are thrilled to have Ryan step into this important role,” said the team’s press release announcing Abel. “I’ve known Ryan for almost a decade and he’s a remarkable person, leader and Coach. Our guys are looking forward to this season and we are excited to have Ryan lead a great baseball club in North Adams!”
