Jaconski and Maher Nab First Selection for NECBL Player & Pitcher of the Week Honors
The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) announces the Week 1 Player & Pitcher of the Week honors including honorable mentions for the week concluding on Sunday, June 9th.
Keene utility player Joe Jaconski (Penn State) and Newport pitcher Adam Maher (UMass Dartmouth) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s (NECBL) Player and Pitcher of the Week for week 1 of the 2024 regular season.
Jaconski has played a crucial role within Keene’s offense on their way to a 3–1 start this season. In the Swampbats four games this season, Jaconski has hit two home runs to go along with a .625 batting average to start the season, putting the league on watch in the top five amongst those statistics. Jaconski also recorded a three-hit afternoon in Keene’s comeback win over Mystic on Sunday afternoon.
Coming off his first season with the Nittany Lions at Penn State, Jaconski tallied 57 hits to go along with seven home runs, driving in 37 runs with a .281 average. Jaconski previously spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the UNC Tar Heels, before transferring to Penn State.
On the other side of the ball for Newport, Maher was untouchable in his first start of the season. The Gulls’ righty tossed six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out a dozen batters, putting him at the top of the league in punch outs. Maher is also tied for first with several other pitchers in wins (1) and ERA (0.00).
Before joining the Gulls this summer, Maher played his first three seasons of college ball at UMass Dartmouth. In his career, Maher has tallied 44 appearances, a 3.33 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 140.2 innings pitched.
