North Shore Navigators vs. Upper Valley Nighthawks
Final Score: North Shore 8, Upper Valley 4
Hartford, VT - The Upper Valley Nighthawks fell 8-4 to the North Shore Navigators in a Monday night North Division matchup.
North Score got the scoring going right away with four runs in the top of the first, capitalizing on a pair of Nighthawk errors to take the early lead. Ethan Wilson (Winthrop), Michael Perazza (FAU), and Aidan Sengenberger (Seton Hall) singled in the frame, with Wilson and Perazza coming home for the game's first two runs. Jaydon Aukai Kea (Vanderbilt) and Alex Marot (Charleston Southern) reached on a walk and an error, respectively, and scored on Sengenberger’s 2 RBI single to take a commanding 4-0 early lead.
Upper Valley struck right back in the bottom of the inning, as Cole Fellows (Columbia) and Jack Spanier (Minnesota) singled to start the frame with a pair of baserunners. Fellows scored on a Ryan Preisano (Wake Forest) RBI, and Spanier came home on a fielder’s choice later in the inning to cut the lead in half. That’s all they would get, as a double play got the Navigators out of a jam.
In the bottom of the third for Upper Valley, Spanier led things off with a single, and Preisano followed up with a walk. Both were scored on a booming 2 RBI double from Nick Shulet (Rider) to tie the game at four. North Shore wouldn’t respond until the fifth, when a three-run inning sparked by a leadoff solo shot by Kea gave them the lead right back. Davis Baker (Penn) also singled in the inning, later scoring on a wild pitch. Sengenberger then reached on a walk and scored the inning’s final run on a Sam Parks (Stonehill) RBI single.
North Shore added a final insurance run in the top of the ninth, as a Wilson single scored Jack Rickheim (Harvard) to bring the score to 8-4.
The North Shore bullpen was the story in this one, as they combined to go for seven innings, only allowing two hits, despite only striking out three. It was a must-needed win for the Navigators, as they got back in the winning column and improved to 5-12. They get a tough test tomorrow, however, as they travel to take on the number one ranked Keene Swampbats at 6:35 pm. Upper Valley falls to 7-6 with the loss, and gets the Ocean State Waves in a road contest tomorrow at 6:30 pm.
