Fort Frances Legend, Duncan Keith Officially Retires
Duncan Keith has called it a career.
The Edmonton Oilers announced the retirement of the former Fort Frances Minor Hockey league product this morning.
The 38-year-old played 17 seasons, spending all but one with the Chicago Blackhawks.
He played his final season with the Oilers.
The Blackhawks had selected Keith in the second round of the 2002 NHL draft, but he did not make his pro league debut for another three years.
He would go on to play on three Stanley Cup teams, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2015 as the playoff MVP.
He would share the 2015 Stanley Cup win with Fort Frances residents, bringing both the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe trophy to town that August.
Keith was also the winner of the James Norris Award as best defenceman twice during his career and played in four league all-star games.
He also played in the international arena for Team Canada, which won gold medals at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
He was also selected to play for Canada at the 2008 World Men’s Championship, where they won silver, losing to Russia in the final.
Keith was also named as one of the greatest 100 players in NHL history when the league celebrated its 100th season in 2017.
