Knightes, Thomas Heroes in Come From Behind Win
North Adams, Massachusetts— Robbie Knightes (St. John’s University) and Dalton Thomas (University Arkansas Little Rock) were the Sanford Mainers (4-5) heroes in a four-run ninth inning come from behind 7-4 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats (4-3) at Joe Wolfe Field Tuesday night ending a three-game losing streak.
Knightes and the Mainers were down to their last strike before the third baseman singled in to left field scoring Harrison Wenson (University of Michigan) who reached base with a one-out single, tying the game 4-4. Dalton Thomas (University of Arkansas Little Rock) followed with the go-ahead RBI single to left-center field scoring Dan Hetzel (Cochise College) who worked a key walk, giving the Moose a 5-4 lead.
The Mainers tacked on two more insurance runs with a Chris Gaetano (Monmouth University) run scoring single and Thomas scored the fourth and final run of the inning on a passed ball taking a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. Iannick Remillard (Canisius College) tossed a perfect ninth earning his first save of the season.
Cody Dube (Keene State College) picked up the win, keeping the Mainers in the game twirling four dominant innings of relief allowing one hit and striking out seven. Along with Gaetano, Johnny Slater (University of Michigan) and Wenson all hit a solo home run for the Mainers. Four different Mainers had multi-hit games with Wenson pacing the offensive charge with a three hit evening.
The Mainers return to Goodall Park Wednesday night concluding their seven day, seven game stretch, hosting the Ocean State Waves with first pitch at 6:30 PM.
