Cody is born and raised in Springfield. He started playing hockey as a 10-year-old spending eight years on the ice for the Springfield Spirit.
Cody played three years of junior hockey in New Hampshire for the Eastern Kodiaks, then returned to play for the Ice Bears' Division III team in 2012-13 before becoming an assistant coach. He assumed head coaching duties with the DIII team in the 2016-17 season.
During his first year as head coach, Cody took his team to the ACHA D3 Nationals for the first time in team history. Cody works for Cardinal Roofing and welcomed his first child, Kennedy Meshell Blevins, born July 2015.
