About our League
The Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL) is a wood bat baseball league with 5 teams in the Carolinas. Founded in 1999, the SCBL provides a valuable opportunity for college players to play wood bat baseball against top-level competition with the goal of preparing them for a career in professional baseball.
The SCBL is one of ten leagues affiliated with the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) – an alliance of college summer wood bat leagues which operates under National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) legislation. It is funded in part by Major League Baseball and is a non-profit Corporation whose member teams are also non-profit, 501(c)(3) and (4) corporations that are primarily dependent on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations in each team’s community.
Entering its fifteenth season, the SCBL will give 150 college players the opportunity to compete and develop their skills this summer. The League also provides positions for 15 coaches, and a number of summer internships for college students and recent graduates. Team rosters are comprised solely of players who have completed one year of college and have college eligibility remaining, positioning the NACSB summer leagues at the highest level of pre-professional amateur baseball in America.
The SCBL has a 42-game schedule per team. All games are played at night to allow players time during the day to work, attend summer classes or condition on their own. Double Headers on the weekend and two weeknight games a week result in 45 innings per week for the players to hone their skills and compete. Games are broadcasted over the web so families and coaches of our hosted players can follow their games. The SCBL relies heavily on Host families to house the players that are not local to the area. The SCBL has hosted players from just about every State and even players from as far away as Austrailia. The schedule is also conducive to attendance by local families, for whom the SCBL provides affordable entertainment.
Community involvement is a priority for the SCBL. We partner with local non-profit and civic groups through Community Nights, which provide a venue for interaction with fans.
