Junior hockey: Blizzard buries Ice Hawks again
The Alexandria Blizzard jumped on the Rochester Ice Hawks early for a second consecutive night and snowballed their way to an 8-3 North American 3 Hockey League victory at the Rochester Recreation Center.
Alexandria scored four goals in the first period and added three in the second for a 7-2 lead after two periods.
The Ice Hawks also fell to the Blizzard 6-0 on Friday at Alexandria.
The Blizzard outshot the Ice Hawks 53-17 on Saturday and received two goals each from Logan Norman and David Carey.
Dominik Bogdzuil scored two goals for Rochester and Justin Sweet added a power-play goal in the third period. Colby DeCarlo had two assists for the Ice Hawks, while Bogdzuil and Trey McMillen had one each.
Zach Mains (31 saves) and Kyle Plantz (14 saves) split time in goal for Rochester.
The Ice Hawks play a home-and-home series with the Wisconsin Whalers on Friday and Saturday. They play at Wisconsin on Friday, then at the Rec Center at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
