Ice Hawks blanked at home
The Rochester Ice Hawks were unable to build on Friday's stellar performance, suffering an ugly 5-0 setback against the Wisconsin Whalers on Saturday night at the Rochester Recreation Center.
The Ice Hawks beat the Whalers 5-1 on Friday, but they couldn't follow up that effort Saturday. The Whalers held a 39-34 edge in shots on goal.
Wisconsin did much of its damage with the man advantage. The Whalers opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first. They made it 2-0 early in the second with another power-play tally.
Midway through the second, the Whalers scored on a penalty shot to make it 3-0 heading into the final frame. They added two insurance goals in the third.
Zach Mains suffered the loss in goal for Rochester. He recorded 34 saves on 39 shots.
The Ice Hawks, who dropped to 10-24-1 in the North American Tier 3 Hockey League's Central Division, return to action Friday on the road at the Minnesota Flying Aces in Little Falls.
