The Rochester Ice Hawks got off to a slow start in their final home game of the season and couldn't recover.

Rochester allowed the first four goals of the game, all in the first period, in a 6-3 North American 3 Hockey League loss to the La Crosse Freeze on Saturday at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Ben Johnson put La Crosse up for good 1:25 into the game. The Freeze (30-13-0 overall) then received two goals from Patrick Gazich and one Red Wing native Dylan Goggin in a span of 4:16 late in the opening period to blow the game open and take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Hawks rallied for three goals in the second and pulled within 5-3 after two. Dominik Bogdzuil, Hunter Heightland and Trey McMillen all scored for Rochester, while Sam Wenner scored for the Freeze in the second and Taylor Trapp added an empty-net goal in the third.

The Ice Hawks (10-33-1) close the regular season Friday and Saturday at the Wisconsin Whalers.
