Introducing Tommy Goebel: Head Coach of the 2016 Team Pennsylvania Brick
The countdown to the 2026 Brick Invitational Tournament in Edmonton is on, and Team Pennsylvania Brick is proud to announce that Tommy Goebel will serve as head coach of our 2016 birth year team. With his proven track record both on the ice and behind the bench, Goebel is set to bring a wealth of experience, leadership, and passion to one of youth hockey’s most prestigious events.
From Player to Pro
A native of Parma, Ohio, Tommy Goebel built a standout playing career as a dynamic forward. He excelled at Michigan State University before transferring to Ohio State University, where he capped off his NCAA career with strong offensive production. Following college, Goebel turned pro and spent several years competing at the AHL and ECHL levels, where his speed and skill made him a consistent contributor. His playing journey gave him first-hand knowledge of what it takes to reach the highest levels of the sport.
Behind the Bench: Building Champions in Cleveland
Transitioning from player to coach, Goebel quickly established himself as a respected leader in youth hockey. He now runs the Cleveland Barons program, one of the premier organizations in the United States. His coaching philosophy emphasizes skill development, structure, and character — values that have consistently prepared players for the next level.
Most notably, Goebel’s leadership of the Barons’ 2013 birth year team has been a standout success. Under his guidance, that group has risen to become one of the nation’s top-ranked youth hockey teams, earning recognition for both their skill and discipline. His ability to connect with players and maximize their potential has cemented him as one of the top youth coaches in North America.
Looking Ahead to Edmonton
The Brick Invitational is widely regarded as the pinnacle of youth hockey, and Goebel’s appointment as head coach of Team Pennsylvania’s 2016s signals a commitment to giving our players the best opportunity to succeed. His experience developing elite talent and leading competitive teams will provide invaluable guidance as this group embarks on their journey to Edmonton.
We’re excited to welcome Tommy Goebel into the Team Pennsylvania Brick family and look forward to seeing his impact as we chase history together at the 2026 Brick Invitational.
