2024 will be the Gulls FANatic About Reading Program's 16th year of operation. This program is proudly presented by People's Credit Union.
The program, in which our very own Newport Gulls student-athletes travel to every elementary school and various middle schools on Aquidneck Island begins in June. FANatic About Reading serves as a platform to promote the importance of reading as Newport Gulls players read to the students along while also stressing the importance of continuing their education. Reading is a simple and fun way to keep the adolescent mind stimulated over summer recess.
Every student will be given bookmarks by the players and will also be asked to read four books from the beginning of the program to our July 12th game vs. North Shore. On this game night, every student who has completed the readings can turn their bookmark in at Cardines Field to attend the Newport Gulls game for FREE. This night will be People's Credit Union FANatic About Reading Night! In addition to getting into the game, the students will also be honored on the field during the pre-game ceremony.
Overall, the Newport Gulls will read to over 3,000 students in 150+ classrooms on Aquidneck Island.
