PLYMOUTH, Mass. – Gulls’ starting pitcher Charles King earned his first win of the season, throwing six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts as Newport topped Plymouth, 3–2 on Tuesday night. Newport outhit Plymouth, 10–7 in the game.

The Gulls took a 2–0 lead in the top of the third inning as Andrew Daschbach hit a two-run home run over the right field fence to score Kameron Misner, who singled with two outs. In the sixth inning, the Gulls extended their advantage to 3–0 on a two-out RBI double from Cade Cabbiness.

But, an RBI sacrifice fly from Hernen Sardinas in the bottom of the sixth cut the Gulls’ lead to 3–1. Then, James Venuto crossed the plate in the seventh on an infield fly after the Pilgrims loaded the base to reduce Plymouth’s deficit to 3–2.

On the mound, Drew Korzybski fell to 3–2, hurling six innings while surrendering three earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts. Gulls’ closer Matt Murphy logged his second save of the season throwing the ninth inning scoreless.

Tomorrow night, the Gulls (14–22) will return to Cardines Field to host the Vermont Mountaineers (17–23) in Newport’s final home game of the season. At the ballpark, it will be Host Family Appreciation Night. 250 free 2017 Gulls team card sets will be handed out and free admission will be given to children who are 12 years old and under courtesy of Newport Gulls Baseball.
