NEWPORT, R.I.- The Gulls add two left-handed pitchers to their staff with the signing of Haylen Green and Augie Mihlbauer of Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX).

Green, a five-eleven, 180-pound sophomore, has appeared in eleven games for the Horned Frogs this season. As a reliever, he holds a 1—1 record, with his win coming against Long Beach State University on Feb. 28. In that game, Green was Coach Jim Schlossnagle’s first arm out of the pen, surrendering no runs and one hit in 1.2 innings. In total, the Lufkin, TX native has given up just 10 runs on 12 hits while striking out 22 in 20.2 IP. He owns a 2.61 ERA through the first 35 games of the season.

In his freshman year, Green made two starts in 15 appearances with a 3.10 ERA and 24 strikeouts. He also held opposing hitters to just a .155 batting average as he gave up just nine runs on 11 hits in 20.1 IP. Green picked up his first collegiate win in TCU’s Mar. 24 matchup versus Oklahoma State where he struck out the only batter he faced. Green also pitched a scoreless inning of relief against Florida in the 2017 College World Series.

Before TCU, Green played for Lufkin High School where he was a four-year letter winner, a First-Team All-District player as a junior and senior, and a 2015 Underclass All-American Honorable Mention. The lefty was named Second-Team Texas All-Region as a senior, but his highest honor came when he was named a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American. With a fastball in the high-80s to low-90s, Perfect Game ranked him the No. 11 LHP and No. 129 overall player in the state of Texas.

Joining Green in the City by the Sea is fellow TCU lefty Augie Mihlbauer. The six-foot, 190-pound freshman has yet to allow just two runs through the first 16 appearances of his college career, surrendering nine hits in 16.1 innings pitched. Mihlbauer has tallied 23 strikeouts to go along with his 1.10 ERA. In TCU’s matchup versus Vanderbilt on March 11, the Mukwonago, Wisc. native held the Commodores hitless and struck out two in 1.1 innings on the hill.

During his time at Mukwonago High School, he earned four varsity letters. As a senior, Mihlbauer was named a Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and was selected as a First-Team All-Region player. At the conclusion of his junior season, he was selected as a Second-Team Rawlings-Perfect Game All-American. He was ranked the No. 1 left-handed pitcher in the state of Wisconsin, and the No. 42 ranked lefty in the country by Perfect Game. Mihlbauer formerly played summer baseball for the Evoshield Canes.

The Newport Gulls, members of the 13-team New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded as the Rhode Island Gulls in 1998 in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Newport in 2001. In addition to recruiting, fielding, and developing a team of the nation’s top collegiate baseball athletes and attracting 50,000 fans annually to Cardines Field, the predominantly volunteer organization strives to benefit the community of Newport County via summer camps, reading programs, fundraisers, scholarships, and charitable donations – totaling over $1 million since 2001. The Gulls are six-time champions of the NECBL – the winningest franchise in league history – and were ranked as the overall No. 1 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game USA in 2012.
