NEWPORT, R.I. — Next up for Newport’s Solar Signings powered by A1 Roofing is sophomore RHP/infielder Colby Wallace from East Carolina University and redshirt sophomore RHP Nick DiRito of UMass Lowell.

As of April 28, Wallace is batting .282 in 44 games, with 48 hits and 33 RBIs. He’s a top shortstop in North Carolina, and he’s also been a strong reliever for the Pirates through 11 innings. He’s averaging around one strikeout per inning with 10 and has maintained a 4.91 ERA.

DiRito, out of Plymouth, Massachusetts, stayed close to home with the Riverhawks and has seen much success on the mound. In nearly 46 innings, he’s punched out 40 and kept a 3.74 ERA.

His best outing to date was April 27 against Binghamton when DiRito went seven scoreless innings.

As opening day at Cardines Field inches closer, stay tuned for the Gulls’ newest signees, presented by A1 Roofing!

The Newport Gulls, members of the 13-team New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded as the Rhode Island Gulls in 1998 in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Newport in 2001. In addition to recruiting, fielding, and developing a team of the nation’s top collegiate baseball athletes and attracting 50,000 fans annually to Cardines Field, the predominantly volunteer organization strives to benefit the community via summer camps, reading programs, fundraisers, scholarships, and charitable donations – totaling over $1 million since 2001. The Gulls are eight-time champions of the NECBL – the winningest franchise in league history – and were ranked as the overall No. 1 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game USA in 2012.
