NEWPORT, R.I. – The Newport Gulls are proud to recognize two former Gulls, Catcher Will Smith and Utilityman Tommy Edman, as they celebrate back-to-back World Series titles with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Smith, who celebrates his third World Series title with the Dodgers, led the team with a .276 average during the 2025 MLB Playoffs, while hitting 2 Home Runs, and 8 RBI. Smith drove in the series clinching run with a Home Run in the eleventh inning of Game 7, leading the Dodgers to a 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Edman is celebrating his second title with the Dodgers after being acquired at the trade deadline during the 2024 season. Edman had a .222 average, with 2 Home Runs, and 8 RBI. Edman spent time at both Second Base and Centerfield during the playoffs, providing defensive stability at both positions.

Both Smith and Edman were members of the 2014 Newport Gulls, who that season were also crowned NECBL Champions with a win over the Sanford Mainers in two games. They become the first former Gulls to win back-to-back World Series titles as teammates.
The Newport Gulls congratulate Will and Tommy on this incredible achievement and look forward to following the rest of their continued success in the MLB for years to come.
