Mascot (COAL)

Mascot "COAL"

Glace Bay's newest hockey sensation, our very own MASCOT, named "COAL" arrived earlier this morning with a very warm reception from almost 50 hockey youngsters at the Dominion Rink and his day kept on going due to his popularity.
Saturday evening COAL and some of our Glace Bay Miner's players participated in the 2013 Glace Bay Christmas Parade. Everyone who attended this annual event had an awesome time as the streets were filled with hundreds of on-lookers. We are sure that many in the crowd were former coal miners and they would have gotten a kick at viewing our new mascot.
Above are some of our highlight pictures including: GBMH Pee Wee AAA Hockey Team, Coal and Pee Wee Metro 2 players Lucas MacKay & Andrew Battiste, Coal/MLA Geoff MacLellan walking the parade route, also GBMH executive member Sheldon Burke and friend Sherry Eagles were among the hundreds of parade onlookers.

The Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association has a new player to register!. This morning at Dominion Rink a new character named “Coal” arrived between Novice Games and instantly became a “Big Hit” among almost 50 youngsters. Coal is now our GBMH association’s hockey mascot and will be seen at our rinks throughout the balance of this season and for many seasons to come.
Upon Coal’s arrival he walked through the stands meeting and waving to all the kids and parents. By the time he walked around the rink to make his entrance onto the ice surface the youngsters were chanting his name “COAL-COAL-COAL” and were eager to swarm around him. If anyone wondered if the mascot idea and or name “Coal” would be accepted, well the answer is that he was overwhelmed with instant popularity. One parent in the stands commented “I love the whole idea and so does my dad who is here as he got a kick out of him and loved Coal’s sweater # (26) named after our Glace Bay Colliery where dad once worked”.
GBMH Special Events coordinator Angela Battiste is delighted that “Coal” has arrived and looks forward to having the mascot attend our association’s hockey events as well as other community events in Glace Bay & Area. Battiste states “Coal is a wonderful ambassador for our hockey association and with our community supporting us, we will make sure Coal will attend and support many community events”.
Coal’s next big appearance will in the Glace Bay Santa Claus Parade later to-day. When you see him give him a Big Wave or a High Five!.
