Thursday evening the last of a three night GBMH AWARDS Banquets wrapped-up at the BAYplex Community Hall. Association President, James Edwards presided over the ceremony by welcoming all players, coaches and parents associated with teams from the Bantam and Midget age levels. Once again the hall was filled to capacity which was nice to see teams and players supporting each other at the end of season. Edwards shared some personal experiences and offered some health/fitness encouragement for the youngsters to consider while looking forward to the next season. As an extra attraction president Edwards introduced Mr. Donnie Burke, a Cape Breton Regional Representative for Hockey NS.
Mr. Burke referred to the Glace Bay Female “Rep Teams” as a diverse mix of skilled hockey players from various parts of the local metro area. He said the reason why they chose GBMH is because “ GBMH has such an excellent hockey program ranging from hockey development to the organization in itself”. He said “Hat’s-off to GBMH’s executive for pro-actively supporting growth in their female hockey programs”. Burke continued to say “just look at how well all the GBMH female teams performed during the recent zone and provincial play-downs where all teams did very well”.
Edwards closed out the banquet by thanking all the organizers and volunteers who assisted in providing the three award events this week. He also challenged the older youngsters in the audience as they approach the end of their minor hockey to consider the value of coaching that was provided to them and that maybe they could return the favor following their graduation of minor hockey.
Finally, Mr. Edwards reminded the returning players and their parents that our GBMHA will be hosting the Annual General Meeting next Wednesday at 7:00pm at the BAYplex. Executive positions will be available for nominations and as an incentive to all parents, there will be a “free 2016-17 hockey registration draw” held among any GBMH member who attends.
