Caper Scraper will keep ice clean at Dominion Arena
DOMINION, N.S.
Good news proved to be good medicine for a young boy.
On Monday, Keegan O’Neill, 11, and his brother Jordan, 7, learned they were the winners of the Mickey’s Original Six Hockey Society contest to name the new Olympia destined for Dominion Arena.
The winning name is the Caper Scraper.
“I just jumped out of my chair,” said Keegan, who has been battling a cold, of his reaction to the news. “It did make me feel better.”
Brother Jordan O’Neill, 7, was also excited by the news.
“I was just jumping all around when I found out.”
Keegan, a Grade 6 student at Oceanview Education Centre, isn’t sure what he will do with his share of the prize, but Jordan, a Grade 2 student at St. Anne’s Elementary School, says he needs new knee pads for hockey.
The boys will receive a $100 gift certificate from Bay Bye Sports and a $300 cash prize from the hockey society, Dominion Arena and Glace Bay Minor Hockey.
Mickey McNeil of the society organized the contest to name the new $100,000 Olympia destined for the Dominion Arena. Children were invited to fill out a ballot which included a sketch of the Olympia to colour.
The O’Neill boys participate in Glace Bay Minor Hockey. Keegan is a member of the peewee AAA Miners and Jordan is on the novice advanced Blue team.
