PLAYER PROFILE
Born: December 16, 1996 Height: 5' - 11" Weight: 180 lbs. Shoots: Left
Carter was born in Burlington, Ontario and raised in Ottawa. He first played minor in Gloucester at age 8. He says, “My next-door neighbours gave my brother and I our first sticks. I played my first 3 years of Junior lacrosse for Gloucester Junior B and my last two for the Peterborough Junior A Lakers.” His Junior A and B stats included 68 goals and 90 assists for 158 goals in 64 games – pretty good for a defense/transition guy, no doubt related to his superb offensive skills on display in college, as he holds the all-time points and goal records for the US Division 2 College of Saint Rose Golden Knights. Here are some notes from the website: “AS A SENIOR (2019): Voted co-captain. Started all 14 games on attack. Finished his career with a Saint Rose record 146 career points. Scored 112 goals, most ever by a Golden Knight. Handed out 34 assists in his career. Totaled a program-record 61 points in his final season. Equaled his program-record of 44 goals, and dished out a team-high 17 assists. Graduated as the first Saint Rose player to record a pair of 50-point seasons. Also is the first Golden Knight to score 40 or more goals in two campaigns. Voted third-team All-Northeast-10 Conference. Ranked 13th nationally and third in the NE10 with 3.14 goals per game. Was sixth in the league with 4.36 points per game. Finished sixth in the NE10 with 44 goals and was tenth on the circuit with 61 points. Selected for the (3/5) USILA Team of the Week.” Carter attended the Hill Academy in his final year of high-school “to excel academically, and grow as a lacrosse player, and in order to prepare for the college level.” Wise move – benefitted from coaching by former Adanac stars and future Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Famers, Patrick and Brodie Merrill (both of whom billeted at my house during summers playing for the Adanacs, much as Carter and his teammate and good friend Austin Robinson are now.
On the personal side, Carter says his favourite travel destination is Sedona, Arizona, his favourite film is “The Departed” (available on Blu-Ray in my home theatre) and his favourite band is The Glorious Sons who hail from Kingston, Ontario, not far from Ottawa. He says his favourite meal is steak and potatoes (but he and Austin also became instant fans of the fine food at the Bombay in Coquitlam), his superhero is Spiderman, his real human hero is Terry Fox (a former classmate of mine at SFU – an ordinary kid who became a true hero). He says he grew up playing hockey and in high school he also played football, volleyball and rugby (maybe he’d like to play for the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club this fall!). He says, “On game day I play wall ball in the morning, eat chicken parm pre-game and no one can touch my stick on game day.” Carter concludes, “Jim Morrissey, Brodie Merrill and Callum Crawford have been the most impactful on my game so far.”
