He played minor lacrosse for the St. Albert Rams lacrosse club and was a goalie in lacrosse from novice till he first played “out” in his first year as a Junior. He played 5 years of Junior A lacrosse with the Edmonton Eclipse and then the St. Albert Miners, with highlights including playing in the 2011 Minto Cup and the 2015 Western Finals. In 2016, Dean helped the Senior B Miners win the President’s Cup, scoring 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in 4 games. Dean played 4 years of collegiate lacrosse in the MCLA at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ and helped the Antelopes team win the 2015 MCLA National Championship. He was named an MCLA Second Team All-American Attack in 2014 and again in 2016, and a First Team All-American Attack in 2015, with collegiate stats including an astounding 146 goals and 108 points in 44 games. He is pleased to play again with Carson Barton (another Alberta native), an Antelope teammate in 2013 and 2015. Dean says, “I reached out to the Adanacs on the off season and they also saw me play at the Presidents Cup. Having the opportunity to play with Carson Barton again really sold me on being an Adanac.” In 34 WLA games over 2 seasons Dean has scored 43 goals with 47 assists for 90 points with 14 PiM. Dean also played hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, and basketball and was the Bellerose High School Athlete of the year in Grade 12. He says, “My other interests include hanging out with friends, and playing basketball, hiking, playing hockey, hanging out with my family, including my older brother TJ and my younger sister Danika.” Dean graduated from Grand Canyon University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and now works as an Account Executive with Unity Connected Solutions. In his first 2 years living in BC he went snowboarding often and played field lacrosse with the BeerHunters. This past year Dean has had lots of opportunities to travel including a trip down the Oregon Coast and in Prague in April, where he was the leading scorer and MVP in the Hrevesky Memorial tournament, with a tour of Munich and Amsterdam with fellow Adanac Vinny Ricci and other players afterwards. As for the people most influential in his lacrosse career, Dean named former WLA great Todd Lorenz, who has been key to the rise of Alberta lacrosse, adding, “As well, Jordan Cornfield is the Captain of the senior Miners. I grew up watching him play with the Edmonton Rush and had the opportunity to play with him last year. They are both great role models in the Edmonton community and I have learned a lot from them on becoming a better person on and off the floor.”
